Have you ever wondered why some women experience chronic UTIs or long-term constipation, and why antibiotics sometimes stop working? Maybe this has happened to you, or someone you know. Watch the video to hear me explain the connection – and why it inspired the creation of our For Women probiotics.
During my time as a natural health practitioner, I worked with a woman suffering from chronic constipation and recurring UTIs. Despite seeing her GP and a gastroenterologist, conventional treatments weren’t helping:
- Antibiotics had stopped working due to resistance from repeated use
- Laxatives, enemas, and other interventions failed to relieve her constipation
- Manual bowel evacuation was too risky due to infection concerns
When I carried out a colon hydrotherapy treatment, I cleared the impacted stool – and it became clear that the multiple courses of antibiotics had not only increased her risk of becoming antibiotic-resistant but had also contributed to her chronic constipation and probably fuelled her urinary tract infections. When stool is impacted in the bowel, it can push into the bladder and prevent it from emptying properly; the bladder can then become a breeding ground for e-coli, increasing the risk of a UTI.
This experience inspired me to develop our For Women probiotics, designed specifically to support:
- Bladder and urinary tract health
- Gut and digestive balance
- Vaginal flora balance
The link: UTIs, constipation and antibiotic resistance
Constipation slows the movement of stool, creating an environment where harmful bacteria can thrive.
Harmful bacteria in the gut may be able to migrate from the gut to the bladder increasing the risk of UTIs. This is known as bacterial translocation.
Antibiotics can also disrupt the bacteria in the vagina, making it easier for e-coli to move up the vagina into the bladder and trigger a UTI.
Repeated UTIs often lead to multiple courses of antibiotics, which can:
- Disrupt healthy gut and vaginal bacteria
- Reduce the effectiveness of antibiotics over time (antibiotic resistance)
Once resistance develops, infections become harder to treat, and conventional interventions may fail.
Maintaining balanced gut and vaginal flora is critical to reduce recurring UTIs and support healthy digestion – which is exactly what our For Women probiotics are designed to do. Seeing first-hand how chronic constipation and antibiotic-resistant UTIs impacted this woman’s life was shocking. I wanted to create a gentle, effective probiotic that supports women’s gut, bladder, and vaginal health so no one has to go through what she did. If you are struggling with any of these issues, please get in touch and we will be happy to advise.
