Join us in empowering those who need support and understanding

We are thrilled to announce that this October marks the first ever Diverticular Disease Awareness Month! This initiative aims to bring some much-needed attention to diverticular disease, a condition that affects millions but remains largely misunderstood. As with similar awareness months, the goal is to provide valuable information, offer support, and connect people to the resources they need to better understand and manage this often-challenging condition.

For many of you with these conditions, diverticular disease and diverticulitis are terms you’ve never even heard of until you receive a diagnosis. It can come as a shock, leaving you to deal with your condition with minimal guidance. Doctors typically advise that you follow a low-fibre diet initially, or perhaps even avoid certain foods altogether, but ongoing management often remains unclear.

Here at Just For Tummies, we know this all too well, from the sheer number of people who have contacted us at a complete loss as to how to manage their diverticular symptoms. I have long known that there is a big gap to bridge when it comes to greater awareness and understanding of this condition; it’s why we put together our very popular Diverticular Fact Sheet, free to download here, if you haven’t already done so. I wanted to provide something that would help those struggling with symptoms and their families get the information they need to understand and manage their condition. The fact sheet is packed with tips, advice, and important details on diverticulitis and diverticular disease. Little did we know what a reaction this resource would get, with thousands of downloads and requests pouring in from people seeking help.

In this video, I talk more about the overwhelming number of enquiries we’ve received, how many feel lost and unsupported, unsure how to manage their condition.

I welcome October as Diverticular Disease Awareness Month – finally, a dedicated time to bring these challenges to the forefront. This month is a chance for people to find the support they need, share their stories, and learn how to manage symptoms through diet, lifestyle adjustments, and the right supplements. Often, simple changes can make a world of difference to someone’s physical health and overall wellbeing.

With this in mind, we will be dedicating this entire month to sharing our insights on how to effectively manage diverticular disease. From understanding the causes, to learning how to manage flare-ups, we will provide you with practical tips and expert-backed advice.

Throughout the month, we will also explore the best diets for managing diverticular symptoms. For example, we’ll discuss which foods to avoid – such as nuts, seeds, (unless you mill them) and processed foods – as well as those that promote healing, like fibre-rich vegetables, whole grains, and probiotics. We’ll break down the importance of gradually reintroducing fibre into your diet after a flare-up, and how making small, consistent changes can significantly improve your quality of life.

This Diverticular Disease Awareness Month is about empowering people with the knowledge to take control of their health. Stay tuned for more tips and information in the coming weeks!
