There’s something about September that feels like a fresh start. The air is cooler, the evenings draw in, and nature reminds us that change is in full swing. Just like we swap sandals for boots and salads for soups, our bodies also need a seasonal shift, especially our gut. After all, around 70% of the immune system lives there, and this is exactly the time of year to strengthen it before winter’s bugs and viruses arrive.

What’s in your winter supplement stack?

In September, I always reassess my supplement protocol for the months ahead, based on how my health has been through spring and summer. This year, things have been going really well – I’ve had no bugs or viruses, my energy has been high, and my mood stable. But I’m not one to be complacent. My winter ‘non-negotiables’ include our Just For Tummies Live Bacteria probiotics for gut support, Omega‑3 capsules for cognitive and cardiovascular health, and Garlic tablets to support immunity.

In addition, I include a weekly Vitamin D dose of 20,000 IU, which helps maintain healthy bones, immune function, and mood during the darker months. I also take Ubiquinol 100 mg capsules – the active, highly absorbable form of CoQ10 – which supports cellular energy production, cardiovascular health, and antioxidant protection. A daily multivitamin/mineral ensures I cover any nutritional gaps. For nearly 30 years, I’ve also taken echinacea daily from September, and this year I’m adding a locally made elderberry syrup with echinacea for extra immune support. If I sense the onset of a virus, I start nebulising and increase my intake of Vitamin C in magnesium ascorbate form.
