Marking Psoriasis Awareness Month
Did you know that gut health plays a huge role in the cause and triggers of psoriasis, and can be treated without negative side effects, and yet, frustratingly, it’s overlooked – and not widely known about?
There are around 8 million people in the UK who have psoriasis and, as August is Psoriasis Awareness Month, I wanted to draw attention to the link between this auto-immune skin disease and gut health.
You can read more about this link in my blog post here where I explore the causes, the treatments and my recommendations for managing and alleviating symptoms of psoriasis.
One of my recommendations for people with psoriasis is focusing on ensuring their diet is sufficient in essential fatty acids, in the form of oily fish. If you don’t eat oily fish at least three times weekly, then it is super important to supplement. I recommend taking one of our Omega 3 capsules daily with food.
Omega 3 fatty acids are involved in many aspects of maintaining our health, reducing inflammation and keeping illnesses at bay. A few examples of health problems where low Omega 3 fatty acid levels may be implicated include: psoriasis, eczema, dry skin, poor wound healing, irritability, depression, joint health issues, arthritis, strokes, asthma, allergies (such as hayfever), diabetes, digestive disorders including ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis and atherosclerosis (build-up of plaque in the arteries) to name but a few. Omega 3s are also important for brain, nerve and bone health.
Our Alkaliuing Green Juice recipe that can really benefit anyone with psoriasis. It helps create a more alkaline environment within your digestive system and helps the body to get rid of ‘toxins’. Both really important things for those with autoimmune conditions. Oh, and it tastes pretty great too!
