I would like to share the very inspiring and highly informative video chat that I had with the incredible clinical hypnotherapist, Ros Palmer, all about the importance of detoxing the mind for a happier and healthier life. You only have to spend a few minutes with Ros to feel calmer, with a plan for positive change in your life.
Ros shared her own powerful story, including running her own PR company in London during the heyday of the 1980s when she worked with Lynn Frank (the inspiration behind Eddie in Absolutely Fabulous), meeting the likes of The Rolling Stones, Tony Robinson, working alongside Anne Widdicombe and travelling around Asia, India, and Africa during her time as head of marketing for The Leprosy Mission charity – and all the accompanying highs and lows that came with this period of her life, from becoming a millionaire before the age of 40 to plummeting just a few years later to a point where she lost everything and had to claim benefits. Her story is her driving force, and she explains in our chat how she used her faith to pull her through and start a new life and career as a clinical hypnotherapist.
We covered a lot of topics, talking about how psychosomatic disorders are diseases which involve both mind and body. Some physical diseases are thought to be particularly prone to being made worse by mental factors such as stress and anxiety. Your mental state can affect how bad a physical disease is at any given time, which is why it is so important to find ways to manage stress.
Ros talked about these five Fs:
- Faith (whatever that may be ¬– it could just be wanting to be out in nature, something that grounds you)
- Friends and family (your tribe)
- Fitness of mind and body
- Finance
- Fun!
We often forget the last one, yet having fun is so good for us because physiologically, it helps to balance out our stress and feel-good hormones, preventing diseases long-term. It helps to boost our creativity, energy, productivity, and overall cognition. It’s like our brains revert back to being a child again. So, let’s not forget to have fun!
Do take time to read more about the power of detoxing the mind in Ros’s presentation here.
All the tools and practices Ros talks about in our discussion to detox the mind are just one part of the jigsaw for overall great health and wellness. She shares lots more in her free e-Book ‘Living Your Best Life’, which you can download here.
