Festival season is here! And whilst they’re not renowned for being the healthiest of experiences, there is much you can do both before and during a festival to ensure you stay happy and healthy throughout.
As the saying goes ‘prevention is better than cure’ and this is most certainly the case when it comes to festival health. The body is going to be severely challenged during a festival; low-nutrient food choices with the potential for an upset tummy, lack of sleep, too much sun (if you’re lucky!) and probably too much alcohol.
However, your digestive system is your best friend here because if you can keep that in good shape, everything else will be supported. Here are my supplement recommendations to help you feel your best so that you can release that inner free spirit this festival season!
Live Bacteria probiotics to strengthen your defences

When you ensure that your gut bacteria are well balanced by taking a daily Live Bacteria probiotic capsule, it will help prevent tummy troubles, support the immune system, and help the body better metabolise alcohol or too much sugar generally. If possible, start taking your probiotics a couple of weeks prior to the event.
Additionally, eat plenty of foods that help feed your good gut bacteria, such as live natural yogurt, onions, garlic and green leafy vegetables. Green tea is also fantastic for both the immune system and the digestive tract.
Digestive Enzymes to beat the bloat

It’s likely that you will be eating more than usual, later than usual, and possibly ‘on the go’, so your stomach will thank you for a helping hand when it comes to digesting your food and absorbing nutrients. Take a Digestive Enzymes tablet before your meals to help prevent painful, trapped wind or uncomfortable bloating. They will also help protect you against getting a nasty bug or parasite, as well as helping to prevent constipation.
Milk Thistle for liver protection

Be sure to pack a pot of Milk Thistle tablets – this is one of the best natural remedies for supporting the liver and soothing nasty hangovers. It also helps digestion, so may soothe a grumbling tummy whilst you’re away. Take one tablet before you start drinking, one before you go to sleep and one the following morning – it should really help you feel less groggy.
Activated Charcoal to stop stomach bugs in their tracks

Festivals (in particular, the loos) are breeding grounds for nasty bugs and viruses, so it’s very easy to be struck down by food poisoning, diarrhoea, and stomach bugs. One thing you must pack before you head off is a pot of activated Charcoal as this is a highly effective, safe, natural, and cost-effective toxin-absorbing solution for a sudden stomach upset. Using activated charcoal for stomach bug symptoms can help to limit the body’s absorption of harmful toxins. Activated charcoal uses adsorption to bind harmful toxins to its surface. Furthermore, it isn’t absorbed by the stomach, meaning the toxins won’t enter your gastrointestinal tract and into your bloodstream. Instead, the activated charcoal is excreted along with the harmful toxins.
If you do come down with an upset stomach, the symptoms can be quite frightening. Fortunately, activated charcoal can squash stomach bugs before they get out of hand. At the first sign of symptoms, take 3 capsules every 3 hours until symptoms subside. You can also take a couple of Charcoal capsules daily, just in case you do get a bug or parasite, before they’ve actually had a chance to cause symptoms. As I said earlier, ‘prevention is better than cure’.
For Women to protect the bladder and urinary tract

There’s always more sex at festivals so if you’re prone to UTIs, don’t forget to take one of our For Women capsules twice daily with meals (these can be taken at the same time as the Digestive Enzymes) to help protect you against an unpleasant bladder infection.
