My wellness retreat to the Viva-Mayr Clinic

Viva-Mayr Day Clinic

Illness is a drama in 10 acts:

  • Acts 1 – 3 take place totally unbeknownst,
  • Acts 4 – 6 unfold in the doctor’s waiting room, jammed with patients,
  • Acts 7 – 9 in the hospital
  • and the last act on the deathbed.

I first heard about the Viva-Mayr Clinic in Austria back in 2009. Dr. Harald Stossier, the Clinic’s Medical Director used to visit London and give talks on the Mayr ‘cure’, which is based on the principles of the now renowned Mayr method. Developed by Dr. F.X Mayr over 100 years ago, the Mayr method is based on naturopathy, with three phases: cleansing, revitalisation and stabilisation.

The core focus of the Mayr ‘cure’ is your digestion: resetting it and rebooting it to work in a way that makes you feel better (both in body and mind) and often look better, too.

Back in 2009, when I was a member of The Association of Colon Hydrotherapists, one of our London-based members attended one of the talks delivered by Dr. Stossier and asked if a group of colon hydrotherapists could visit the clinic at Maria Worth, Austria and learn more. I was fortunate enough to be one of the attendees.

The Mayr ‘cure’ – for physical wellbeing and personal regeneration

I was there as a student to learn more about the Mayr ‘cure’, however, as part of the learning, I had to receive the ‘cure’ just like any other guest. It far exceeded my expectations. Anyone who has heard me talk about how my journey with colon hydrotherapy began will have heard me say that when I began my training, I knew at once that I was in the right place, at the right time, with the right teacher, training me in something that would have far-reaching implications to my own health, the health of my family and to the health of many other people – both clients and customers. I felt the same way when I was learning about the Mayr ‘cure’. As I absorbed the knowledge that I gained during that first visit, I knew I would be able to share this for years to come.

I came away from that first week armed with powerful insights into how health through inner body cleansing, not just cleansing the large bowel as in colon hydrotherapy, can have such a positive impact on physical, mental, and spiritual health. Dr Stossier was an excellent tutor, with the Mayr ‘cure’ running through his blood. I learned about functional myodiagnostics (aka applied kinesiology) and how fasting can turn back the ageing clock and I’m not talking about outward looks, although the ‘cure’ does help there, because as your intestines heal and shrink back to their original size, this is visible in the face of the person – facial contours previously hidden by layers of fat begin to emerge, the skin on the face glows, becoming tighter and more elastic, the eyes sparkle, with a crackle of vitality that many of the Mayr doctors and therapists seem to have. Intestinal cleansing affects the whole person. If your system is bogged down by toxins, then this can affect your whole health, disease can manifest, as well as fatigue and depression. Patients who feel burdened by emotional problems, conflict situations, self-doubt and insecurities sense this clearly. Any deep physical cleansing opens up the need and the ability to talk about emotional issues and to look for help. We’ve known for thousands of years that physical cleansing goes hand in hand with increased psychological turning inward. All major religions of the world recommend annual fasting and there is a close connection between fasting and praying, fasting and meditating, fasting and emotional healing.

The Viva- Mayr ‘cure’ is not a bootcamp. You don’t have to starve or live on juices; there are no new diet fads to contend with, just tried and tested healthy eating principles. At Viva-Mayr, they emphasise the importance of acid (20%) – alkaline (80%) eating as a way of life; eating habits such as chewing each mouthful 40 times and how, if you do, you will eat less, but still be very satisfied; and never eating raw food after 4pm as raw food can take up to 8 hours to properly digest and if you go to bed with a belly full of raw food, you will get lots of fermentation, causing discomfort and bloating.

Since my first visit in 2009, I have been back to the Viva-Mayr Clinic three more times. The last of those visits took place very recently and over the coming weeks, I will be sharing lots of the knowledge that I picked up (every time I go, I find that I take away so many learnings) during my two-week stay.

There is a Viva-Mayr Day Clinic on Harley Street in London. If you’d like to experience the Mayr ‘cure’ yourself, but don’t feel it’s possible to visit the residential clinic in Austria, it is possible to see a Mayr doctor at their London premises.

Keep your eyes peeled for more Viva-Mayr content, including:

  • What happens during a typical day during the ‘cure’
  • The many different treatments on offer at Viva Mayr
  • The role of the Base Powder, Epsom Salts and oils for ‘oil pulling’
  • The importance of the acid-alkaline balance in your diet; some of the meals I had while carrying out the ‘cure’ and the new recipe ideas I picked up
  • The ‘emotional detoxing’ I experienced

…and much more besides!

If you have a question about your digestive, gut overall health and wellbeing or the Mayr protocols, please feel free to get in touch.
