Stomach bugs are all too common when we go on holiday, and they can be picked up in a number of ways, be it while travelling on an aeroplane with re-circulated air containing all manner of bugs and viruses (perhaps wearing a mask with two or three drops of tea tree oil on it would be advisable), or as we overindulge on new foods; like it or not, we are exposed to strange bacteria, unfamiliar food/water that put our tummies through their paces.
For those of you planning a trip over the coming months, now is the perfect time to start boosting your immune system and preparing your gut for the changes in food and environment that it will encounter. This is particularly important if you already have IBS or suffer with bloating, constipation, or conditions like Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis.
You can help protect your stomach and gut by taking the supplements that I put together in my Travel Survival Kit, designed to help support your digestive system against the effects of airline travel, changes in water and food, and maintain a settled, happy tummy when you travel and whilst you are on holiday.
The Kit contains 60 Live Bacteria probiotic capsules, 60 natural Digestive Enzymes tablets, 60 high-strength, odour-controlled Garlic tablets and 6 Tummy Tea herbal tea pyramids.
All the supplements in the Travel Survival Kit are made in the UK and are vegan and gluten-free. The Kit comes with full, simple instructions.
Here’s how the supplements work:
- Live Bacteria capsules – keep your friendly bacteria levels high and help prevent food and drink related stomach upsets as well as maintain regular bowel movements.
- Digestive Enzymes tablets – help digestion when you’ve overindulged, reducing uncomfortable bloating, something that tends to happen more often when you travel!
- Garlic tablets – a natural antimicrobial which inhibits the growth of bacteria, viruses and yeasts, as well as supporting the immune system.
- Tummy Tea – a blend of calming herbs and spices to help soothe the digestive system.
And don’t forget to pack a pot of activated Charcoal!
Water in different countries can sometimes upset your stomach if you aren’t a native. And that water will be used in the food that is cooked and served in local restaurants. This can make you feel nauseous or trigger more dramatic gut symptoms like crampy diarrhoea. This is where activated charcoal comes into its own, and why I always travel with a pot of my activated Charcoal capsules.
Activated charcoal is known to absorb toxins in the digestive tract, as they pass through your system, giving you relief from uninvited stomach issues including parasites.
If you get bloating, pain, diarrhoea, and nausea whilst on holiday, take three of my activated Charcoal capsules half an hour before eating, and three more half an hour after eating, until symptoms subside. They work by absorbing bacteria and parasites that can be responsible for a tummy upset. The charcoal can also help stop the nausea and absorb painful trapped gases.
If you find yourself with a more severe form of stomach virus, be sure to see a doctor to get proper treatment.
I also always recommend continuing to take Live Bacteria capsules for at least 2 weeks after you get back from a holiday. And if you are over 50, I recommend that you take a Live Bacteria probiotic capsule every day for the rest of your life, for the huge digestive and gut health supporting benefits and for their immune and anti-ageing benefits.
